Poetry Out-Loud competition coming soon, come to initial meeting January 11th, You could will a possible $20,000 scholarship!

We have an excellent opportunity for all Glacier students.  The National Endowment for the Arts has teamed up with the Poetry Foundation to bring a poetry performance competition to high school students nationwide.   We are in a unique position in Madera county to have a high potential of Glacier students compete at the state level.

Winners from the state level go on to Washington DC!  Here are the details –
  • Any high school students in good standing can select two poems from the Poetry Out Loud anthology found online at www.poetryoutloud.org
  • Students memorize their poems and begin to practice performing them for an audience.  The sooner, the better!
  • Students (parents welcome) come to the initial meeting on January 11th at 11:00am to receive more specific instructions from a Poetry Out Loud representative (Mrs. Mary Lee Gowland).
  • Students come to a required workshop January 19th at 12:00pm with Mrs. Gowland.
  • Students compete here at Glacier for a position at the Madera county level January 25th at 11:00am.
There will be one to three students chosen from Glacier and they will compete at YHS February 5th (times TBA).  If a Glacier student wins county, they will go to the state level competition in Sacramento (TBA).  There are cash prizes at the state level and the winner of the county level has their trip to Sacramento paid for.  Winners at the state level go to Washington DC for the national competition.  This is an all expense paid trip.  The overall winner receives a $20,000 scholarship.

Don’t delay!  Get online today and pick out your two poems that you identify with and move you.  Any questions can be directed to Mr. Tom Gindorf.
